Sometimes the best ideas don't arrive while sitting at a desk. They appear while wandering historic streets, noticing the details others overlook, and simply taking time to be creative. That's the idea behind the Kansas City Inspiration Tour—a one-of-a-kind experience designed for local writers, artists, photographers, bloggers, content creators, and anyone looking to see the city with fresh eyes.

This isn't just another sightseeing tour—it's a creative retreat on wheels. Designed for curious minds, this experience blends storytelling, history, quiet moments of reflection, and time to create. Instead of rushing from landmark to landmark, you'll have the space to pause, notice the details, and let Kansas City's people, places, and stories fuel your next project.

Relax aboard a comfortable motorcoach while our onboard host takes care of the details. Throughout the day, Sherrie will share the fascinating stories that connect each location, helping you see beyond the buildings and landmarks. Every stop has a story, and sometimes hearing those stories is all it takes to inspire a new one of your own.

We'll intentionally build in time throughout the day to write, sketch, photograph, film, or simply sit with your thoughts. There are no expectations, and no pressure to produce a masterpiece. The goal is simple: to leave inspired.

Our journey begins at Union Station, one of Kansas City's most recognizable landmarks. Beneath its soaring ceilings and grand architecture, you'll hear the stories of the travelers, dreamers, and visionaries who passed through its doors over the last century.

No tour of Kansas City would be complete without a visit to the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. Learn how the Black community built a thriving neighborhood despite segregation, becoming a center of entrepreneurship, culture, and world-renowned jazz. Their legacy continues to shape Kansas City's identity today.

Our next stop is Kaw Point, where the Kansas and Missouri Rivers meet. Rich with Native American history and remembered as a stop on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, it's one of the city's most peaceful places. The sweeping rivers' views provide the perfect setting to write, sketch, reflect, photograph, or create content.

We'll then explore the River Market, one of Kansas City's oldest neighborhoods. Historic warehouses, brick streets, colorful murals, and the bustling City Market provide inspiration around every corner. Along the way, you'll hear stories of immigrants, merchants, gangsters, brothels, saloons, and even the infamous axe-wielding "Granny" who became part of Kansas City folklore.

You'll also have time to enjoy lunch at your own pace. Choose from dozens of local restaurants and cafés, enjoy a quiet meal for personal reflection, or gather with new friends to continue the conversation. Sometimes the best conversations happen over lunch with fellow creatives. Sometimes the best ideas come while sitting alone with a notebook. However you recharge, this time is yours.

The grounds of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art are often overlooked. You see the sculptures all the time, but do you know why and how they got there? The story of inspiration for the Shuttlecocks? The sheep inspired sculpture?

Top it all off with the tallest and best view of Kansas City! Ride to the top of the WWI Tower to take in the view and walk the grounds to see the riez sculpture up close.

Whether you're drafting your next novel, filling a sketchbook, building a photography portfolio, writing a blog, recording a travel vlog, or creating your next Instagram Reel or TikTok, you'll leave with more than beautiful photos. You'll leave with stories to tell, ideas worth exploring, and a fresh perspective on Kansas City.

Bring your lunch money, water bottle, writing & drawing utensils, notebook, sketchbook, camera, or smartphone—and leave a little room for inspiration. You never know where your next chapter, painting, poem, photograph, blog post, or viral video will begin.

Sherrie Ortiz

Hi, I’m Sherrie Ortiz—and I’m obsessed with creating unforgettable Kansas City experiences. For 38 years, I’ve been in the business of making memories. I started as a cake designer, then owned a bakery where every detail had to be just right. You know that person who plans trips everyone talks about for years? That’s me. Today, I bring that same passion into every Kansas City walking tour—blending storytelling, local history, and hidden gems into experiences that feel less like a tour and more like exploring with a friend who knows all the best spots.
